Below is a description of the different diplomas and tests that can be prepared and taken in the Alliances Françaises.
DELF & DALF
The DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official diplomas awarded by the French National Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates from outside of France in the French language. The DELF and DALF qualifications are under the authority of the CIEP (Centre International d’Études Pédagogiques).
The DELF and the DALF are composed of six independent diplomas corresponding to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
The DELF and DALF diplomas are independent, so candidates register directly for the examination of their choice. At each level, four skills are evaluated: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

TCF - Test de Connaissance du Français
The Test de Connaissance du français (TCF) is the language level test of the French Ministries of National Education and Higher Education and Research. It assesses the general French language skills of non-French speakers.
The TCF Québec evaluate the French skills on a scale with six levels (from A1 to C2) established by the the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??(CEFR)
The TCF Québec consists of 4 modules to evaluate your level of proficiency in oral and written skills

TCF TP
The Test de connaissance du français (TCF) is intended to non-native French speakers who wish to assess and certify their level of proficiency in French in a simple and reliable fashion for:
Personal purposes: the TCF provides a snapshot of the candidate’s proficiency in written and oral French.
Professional purposes: the TCF certificate is a benchmark of the candidate’s language abilities and may be used to enhance job applications.
Academic purposes: the TCF is required by postsecondary education institutes for students wishing to apply for final year in undergraduate or postgraduate programs.
The TCF is available in a paper-based version.
No prior qualification is required to sit the exam. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age.
Candidates may take the test several times, allowing a minimum of 1 (one) month between two exam sessions.
The TCF TP evaluate the French skills on a scale with six levels (from A1 to C2) established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
The TCF TP is composed of three compulsory modules:
Oral comprehension: 25 min – 29 questions
Language structures: 15 min – 18 items
Written comprehension: 45 min – 29 questions
Two optional modules:
Written expression: 60 min – 3 topics
Oral expression: 12 min – 3 topics
An official certificate of results will be delivered to each candidate from 4 to 8 weeks after the test. For each module, the certificate will show the score obtained. The results are valid for two years.

The TCF Québec
The Test de connaissance du français pour le Québec (TCF Québec) is a test of proficiency in general French specially designed to be consistent with the standards of the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (MIDI) du Québec. It is only intended for people wishing to settle in Québec (Certificat de Sélection du Québec).
The TCF Québec is available in a paper-based version.
No prior qualification is required to sit the exam. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age.
Candidates may take the test several times, allowing a minimum of one month between two exam sessions.
The TCF Québec evaluate the French skills on a scale with six levels (from A1 to C2) established by the the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??(CEFR)
The TCF Québec consists of 4 modules to evaluate your level of proficiency in oral and written skills::

TEFAQ
The Test of Evaluation of French Adapted for Quebec (TEFaq) is a test which aims to measure the candidates’ level of poficiency in French, in both speaking & listening.
Candidates also have the possibility to assess their skills in written comprehension and written expression.
The TEFaq is recognised by the Quebec Ministry for Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI) for Québec Selection Certificate applications.
The TEF is conducted electronically (eTEF), or on paper at certain testing centres.
No prior qualification is required to sit the exam. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age.
Candidates may take the test several times, allowing a minimum of 60 days between two exam sessions.
The TEFaq assesses your level in French of proficiency using a 7 level scale, from level 0 (the most elementary skills) to level 6 (full mastery). This scale refers to:
· The 6 skill levels A1 to C2 from Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: (CEFR) by the Council of Europe.

TEF Canada
The test d’Évaluation de Français pour le Canada (TEF Canada) is a test of general French which assesses the level of proficiency in French of native and non-native French speakers alike.
The TEF Canada is recognised as an official proof of language proficiency by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency applications and Canadian citizenship applications.
The TEF is conducted electronically (eTEF), or on paper at certain testing centres.
No prior qualification is required to sit the exam. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age.
Candidates may take the test several times, allowing a minimum of 60 days between two exam sessions.
The objective of the TEF is to evaluate your French skills on a scale with 7 levels, from level 0 (most basic skills) to level 6 (complete fluency). This scale corresponds to:
the 6 competency levels, A1 to C2, of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??(CEFR)
the 12 levels of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)
The TEF Canada consists of 4 modules to evaluate your level of proficiency in oral and written skills:
Oral comprehension: 40 min – 60 questions
Written comprehension: 60 min – 50 questions
Oral expression: 15 min – 2 subjects to be covered
Written Expression: 60 min – 2 mandatory topics to be covered
An official certificate of results will be delivered to each candidate from 4 to 8 weeks after the test. For each module, the certificate will show the score obtained. Please refer to the NCLC credits equivalences. The results are valid for two years.
PLEASE NOTE: Unlike the DELF-DALF, the TEF and TEF – Quebec have a limited validity of two (2) years.
